Choosing a Hotel in Victoria Falls is such vital component of your vacation yet it can be an arduous task, when faced with the huge variety on offer. Brochures and websites can make things look really good even if they are not. Detailed here is some honest first hand information that will hopefully make your decision somewhat easier. It must be said that all of the hotels mentioned below are of a good standard and we have no hesitation in recommending any of them. They all vary of course dependant on the price they charge and the facilities they offer.

Location:

The closest hotels to the actual waterfall are the Victoria Falls Hotel, Kingdom Hotel and Ilala Lodge. These three hotels are less than a 10 minute walk from the Falls entrance gate. The Sprayview and Rainbow Hotels are within the town centre no more than 2kms away. Then bit further a field are the Elephant Hills Hotel, Victoria Falls Safari Lodge and A Zambezi Hotel. These last three hotels are not within walking distance of the Falls but Free regular bus shuttles, transport guests into the town centre and the waterfall.

Any of the activities you might choose to do for example a sunset cruise, white water rafting or maybe an elephant back safari the tour operator will pick you up for free from any of these hotels, so in this instance location is not an issue.

Price:

As with most holiday destinations there is accommodation to cater for all budgets. The Sprayview and Rainbow Hotels offer the cheapest accommodation, followed closely by the Kingdom, Elephant Hills and A Zambezi Hotels. In the up-market price range is the grand and colonial Victoria Falls Hotel, the very popular Victoria Falls Safari Lodge and the intimate and exclusive Ilala Lodge.

Summary:

Victoria Falls Hotel is steeped in history. Colonial plush and up market it has accommodated dignitaries and royalty from around the world.

Kingdom Hotel is a family orientated hotel with large swimming pools and has a relaxed fun atmosphere. With amazing architecture the whole hotel is themed on the Great Zimbabwe ruins.

Ilala Lodge is a smaller hotel with only 32 rooms ensuring a personalised and intimate service, not really suited to young children.

Sprayview Hotel has motel style accommodation. Quite old, hence its budget price but it is good, relaxed and homely accommodation ideal for self drive tourists and large groups on a budget.

Rainbow Hotel has good, clean accommodation without the bells and whistles. Suits families and anyone more interested in the destination than the hotel, but still wants to be comfortable.

Elephant Hills Hotel is an enormous hotel perched on top of the highest hill in the area, with lovely expansive views of the Zambezi River. It is home to the only golf course in the area which used to be a Championship course. Another great family hotel.

Victoria Falls Safari Lodge is unlike any of the other hotels, it is more like one of the Safari Lodges which are located further out of town. This lodge overlooks its own water hole which is frequented regularly by wildlife of all sorts. This is the only Hotel to offers this kind of safari experience.

Lastly the A Zambezi hotel, which is undergoing major refurbishment, is the only hotel right on the banks of the Zambezi River. This aspect alone sets it apart from the other hotels. Nice quality relaxed family accommodation.
