The Cayman Islands are home to many great eateries that both tourists and locals enjoy. While tropical destinations are traditionally associated with Caribbean-style dishes and an abundance of fresh seafood, not everyone enjoys these types of meals, and some prefer cuisine that is more familiar to them. Fortunately, Cayman recognizes that not all individuals, especially tourists, plan on indulging in island-style fare and, as such, many different types of food are offered, such as Japanese, Italian, American and Chinese. If burritos and tacos are staples in your diet, check out this list of the best Cayman restaurants to find Mexican food.
Agave Grill
Agave Grill is located at 194 Northsound Road, in Unit 1. This Grand Cayman restaurant offers both dine-in and take-out options to their customers, and serves both lunch and dinner Mondays through Saturdays. With a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients, Agave Grill offers traditional Mexican meals in a “Cantina-style” atmosphere. This restaurant strives to use local, sustainable meats and seafood, and their U.S. “Choice” cuts of beef are marinated for a period of 24 hours. The menu features a great selection of tacos, fresh chips, burritos, tostadas, quesadillas and more, and Agave Grill is also available to cater events of various sizes. They serve a variety of alcoholic beverages, most notably tequila, as well as tasty desserts, and the daily specials are much appreciated by frequent customers.
DJ’s Cantina
DJ’s Cantina is located at Coconut Place on Grand Cayman’s West Bay Road. Open from 11am to 10pm, 7 days a week, this restaurant is popular with both locals and tourists, and is situated in the middle of the island’s dining district. This cantina offers a delicious menu that changes weekly, and puts a fresh spin on contemporary Mexican cuisine with a focus on seafood. Diners are able to sit indoors during the hottest hours of the afternoon, and can sit outdoors, on the cantina’s garden terrace, in the cooler evening hours.
Lone Star Bar and Grill
Lone Star Bar and Grill is located at 686 West Bay Road, in the Seven Mile Beach district of Grand Cayman. Not a restaurant that serves strictly Mexican food, Lone Star incorporates Mexican dishes into their overall menu, which predominantly features Texas BBQ dishes, such as burgers, ribs, pulled pork, brisket, chicken fried steak and sirloins. The Mexican items are well-received, and include fajitas, southwest tacos and quesadillas, which are available vegetarian, or with a choice of protein, such as chicken, steak, pork, fish, ground beef and shrimp. Lone Star offers diners great daily specials, and these include fajita Mondays, trivia nights on Tuesdays, jam nights on Wednesdays, bingo on Thursdays and beer specials that run during sports games. There are happy hour specials every Friday, and regular Coyote Ugly nights.
Mexican food is comforting to some, and a new experience for others. Whether you are an experienced diner and have tried many worldly cuisines, or are just coming out of your shell, Agave Grill, the Lone Star Bar and Grill and DJ’s Cantina are great for embarking on a quest full of tacos, burritos, quesadillas and homemade tortilla chips. There are many great Cayman restaurants in the islands, and tourists can find any kind of cuisine they call home.
